Balga logo

Welcome to the Balga Soccer and Social Club Website. Balga has a proud history in Western Australian soccer, from the juniors right up to the seniors. We were considered the best WA club in junior development in the 1970s. Our senior team has attracted some of the state's best players, especially in the mid 1980's when the club reached the pinnacle of the State League (now equivalent to today's Semi-Professional Premier League).

As the suburb and surrounding areas have aged, the club has tried to keep up with the changes. With the "New North" government project, new families have moved into the area which has increased our junior representation. Once again, like it was in the early days of the club, our aim is to have every junior age group represented in the future.

We may no longer be at semi-professional level for our senior teams, however that doesn't mean we lack ambition. We aspire to become a leading team in the Amateur Premier League in the next few years. However, this will not be easy, but with a dedicated committee, members, players and supporters at the club, we can aim for this.

Our Masters team are also an important factor of our club, they have had some excellent seasons in the past few years. The Ladies team also wear the green and black with pride, and many of them attend our first team games to cheer the boys on once their own game has been completed.

We are a fine club! Enjoy the website, please fill out the guest book and for any interested visitors come down to Princess Road Reserve and check us out!

SEASON 2008 SO FAR

Kingsway Olympic (A)

L 5-1

Dominant performance from Kingsway from start to finish, only highlight a superb finish from Craig Dunbar.

Floreat Athena (H)

L 1-2

Poor game in which Floreat seized upon defensive errors to grab 3 points whilst Black & Greens rued several missed opportunities

Curtin University (A)

L 4-1

Dismal showing from Balga as they slumped to bottom of the league with this comprehensive defeat.

Forrestfield United (H)

L 0-3

In a game against fellow strugglers Forrie, Balga were outfought in a spell either side of half time to record another defeat

Kwinana United (A)

L 3-2

Heartbreaking result for the boys, leading 2-0 & cruising in the second half they somehow managed to concede 3 late goals to lose a game they deserved plenty from. Several shots cleared off the line also in the second half that would have wrapped up the points, Kwinana threw caution to the wind & the gamble paid off when in the last minute a cross from near the corner flag drifted in at the far post to seal a stunning victory.

Fremantle Croatia (H)

W 3-2

Sparkling performance against the clear league leaders who up to this point were unbeaten. Despite conceding an early goal, Balga dominated & a fantastic early spell in the second half saw 3 well crafted goals. Fremantle then lifted markedly & caused several scares but could only salvage a late consolation as Balga secured their first 3 points of the season.

North Perth United (A)

L 3-0

Balga never at the races in this one as a hard working, strong tackling North Perth side capitalised on an under strength Balga side who failed to re-capture the previous weeks showing.

Whitford City (H)

L 2-3

Another encouraging performance & this could have gone either way. Featuring Paul Harnett who was a last minute call up to don the gloves, the boys tried impressively throughout but in the end lost to a couple of classy finishes.

Ballajura (A)

L 3-2

The 3-2 scoreline haunted Balga again as they surrendered a 2-0 lead once again in the final minutes against a determined Balla side who were heading for defeat only to scrape the win. Once again a few defensive errors cost the side despite some heroic defending early on in the game. This was a game in which Balga proved they could easily match it with the better sides in this division.

International Calcio (H)

W 3-0

A morale boosting performance & in the end a convincing victory over fellow strugglers Calcio. The win meant Balga were no longer bottom of the league & back in the pack seeking survival this season. 2 penalties sealed this one although the result could have been double this.

Fremantle Colo Colo (A)

W 2-3

Second consecutive win as the recovery gained further momentum. A slow start saw Colo snatch an early goal only for an equaliser before half time against the run of play. The second half saw some superb work from Tim Zachariah to help Balga gain a 3-1 lead. Tim’s late injury meant that the boys had to put on a backs to the wall defensive performance to close out the win. Colo grabbed a late goal as the scoreline again finished 3-2.

The reserves season so far has been inconsistent at best, & despite being the better side in most, if not all games they have struggled to put good results together. At the half way point in the league the reserves are sitting in mid table. Coach Nick Sutton & Laurent Merle will be looking for improvement over the second half of the season.
